Template Guide

Teacher resume template that leads with eligibility and results

Schools read a teacher's resume in a set order: are you eligible, what do you teach and to whom, and what changed in your classrooms. This page covers how to write to a layout that places certifications above experience, so eligibility is answered first.

Who this template suits

This template suits primary and secondary school teachers, subject teachers and coordinators applying to schools, where a principal or academic head reads the resume and checks eligibility before anything else.

It fits applications sent directly to a school and school chains that take applications online: it scores strongly for parseability, though a single-column layout remains the lower-risk choice for a large portal.

If you would rather your skills read as plain text, see the note on the skill squares below before choosing it.

What this layout does

  • A banner across the top: your name in capitals inside a white box that overlaps a coloured band, with your headline spaced out beneath.
  • A two-column body divided by a coloured rule. The narrower left column, aligned toward the divider, holds Contact with small icons, Education with dates above each degree, and Key Skills.
  • The main column runs Objective (your summary), Certifications, Professional Experience and Projects, so certifications sit above experience.
  • Each skill in Key Skills has a row of six squares beneath it, four to six of them filled.

Before and after

Rewriting the bullets this audience gets wrong

A timetable instead of a record

Before
Taught mathematics to classes VI to X.
After
Teaches five sections across classes VI to X; the class X mathematics pass rate rose from 88% to 97% over three board cycles.

Every applicant for the post teaches the subject. The number of sections, the classes and a result you can support are what separate you, and board results are figures a school can check.

An initiative with no outcome

Before
Conducted extra classes for weak students.
After
Runs twice-weekly remedial sessions for 25 class IX students; 21 moved up at least one grade band by the half-yearly exam.

It says who, how often and what changed, and it describes students by the support they received rather than labelling them weak.

Eligibility buried at the bottom

Before
Qualified CTET (last line of Education).
After
CTET, Paper II (classes VI to VIII), CBSE, 2017, under Certifications, above experience.

Schools check eligibility before reading on. Naming the paper tells them which classes you are eligible to teach, and this layout puts Certifications where they look first.

ATS compatibility

How this layout behaves in a parser

Two-column body

The layout scores 83 of 100 (strong) on our Template Parseability Score. It loses 11 points for its two-column body, 2 for decorative boxes and 1 for a fixed font size. Contact details still come out before work history, all 10 sample content fragments extracted intact, and Professional Experience, Education and Key Skills are headings a parser recognises.

The skill squares

The squares under each skill are decoration: the builder does not ask for a proficiency level, and each skill shows four to six filled squares worked out from its text. The score counts them as skill bars, which costs 3 points, and a reader may take them as ratings.

Text, not graphics

Your name, contact details, dates and every skill name are plain text; the icons and squares carry no information a parser needs.

When to send a single-column version

For a large recruitment portal, a single-column ATS-friendly layout with the same content avoids the column and skill-square deductions.

Section by section

What belongs where

Objective

The template labels your summary Objective. Use it as a profile: subject, classes, board and years, and one strength a school will care about, in two or three lines.

Certifications

Your teacher eligibility test first: CTET with the paper (Paper I for classes I to V, Paper II for classes VI to VIII) or your state TET, with the year you qualified. Then other relevant training.

Professional Experience

For each school: the classes and subjects you teach, the board, responsibilities such as class teacher or department roles, and results you can support.

Education

B.Ed. and your degree with years and main subjects. It sits in the left column, so keep each entry short.

Key Skills

List teaching skills a school can test in an interview or demo lesson, such as lesson planning or formative assessment. Remember the squares are not a rating.

Quick checks before you send it

  • Name the CTET paper or TET level, not just that you qualified.
  • Give every result a class, a subject and a period.
  • Check your skill names read well without the squares, since a parser sees only the text.

Frequently asked questions

Where should CTET or TET go on a teacher resume?

With your certifications, near the top. This template shows Certifications above Professional Experience. Give the test, the paper or level, and the year you qualified.

Does a CTET or TET certificate expire?

The National Council for Teacher Education extended the validity of TET qualifying certificates to life in 2021 and asked states to apply the change, so give the year you qualified rather than an expiry date.

Should a teacher include board exam results?

Yes, where the figures are yours to state and you can support them: the classes, the subject, and the change over a stated period. Avoid figures for a whole school that you did not teach.

Do the squares next to skills show my level?

No. The builder does not ask for a level; each skill shows four to six of six squares worked out from its text. If you do not want a reader to take them as ratings, choose a template that lists skills as text.
