Nurse and doctor resume template built around registration and clinical scope

A clinical resume answers two questions before any other: are you registered to practise, and what level of care have you managed. This page covers how to put registration, units, patient load and certifications into a layout with a clear clinical sidebar.

Who this template suits

This template suits staff nurses, nurse educators and clinical specialists, and doctors applying for resident, medical officer or consultant posts, where a nursing superintendent or medical director reads registration and scope first.

Its sidebar keeps contact, education, certifications and skills together, which suits clinical careers where registration and life-support certifications are checked alongside the degree.

It scores strongly for parseability, and its section headings are ones parsers recognise. Hospitals that recruit through a large portal may still be better served by a single-column version.

What this layout does

  • A tinted left sidebar, about a third of the page wide, opening with a medical emblem, then Contact with icons, and Education, Certifications and Skills centred beneath.
  • The main column opens with your name in large type and your headline in spaced capitals, followed by Career Summary.
  • Professional Experience lists each role in bold capitals, with the hospital and location on the left and dates on the right, then bullets; Projects follows.
  • Certifications sit in the sidebar under Education, so registration and life-support courses stay together.

Before and after

Rewriting the bullets this audience gets wrong

A duty with no acuity

Before
Responsible for patient care in ICU.
After
Cares for two ventilated patients per shift in a 16-bed cardiac ICU, including recovery after cardiac surgery.

Every ICU nurse provides patient care. The unit, its size, the patient ratio and the acuity tell a reader what level of care you can take on from your first shift.

Registration stated without detail

Before
Registered nurse.
After
Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife, Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council, 2019.

Registration is checked before appointment. Naming the council and the year lets a hospital verify it; add the registration number when an application asks for it.

Training with no result

Before
Trained new staff.
After
Precepted nine new nurses through their first three months; all completed unit competencies on schedule.

Precepting is a responsibility senior posts look for. The number of nurses, the period and the outcome show it was done well, not just assigned.

ATS compatibility

How this layout behaves in a parser

Two-column body

The layout scores 89 of 100 (strong) on our Template Parseability Score. It loses 11 points for its two-column body. Contact details still come out before work history, and all 10 sample content fragments extracted intact.

Section headings

All 3 of 3 core section headings are ones a keyword-based parser recognises: Professional Experience, Education and Skills, so your work history is filed under experience.

Text, not graphics

The emblem at the top of the sidebar is a drawing that parsers skip. Your name, contact details, registration and dates are plain text.

When to send a single-column version

For a hospital portal with no named contact, a single-column ATS-friendly layout with the same content avoids the column deduction.

Section by section

What belongs where

Career Summary

Registration, years in practice, the units or specialties you have worked in, and one or two strengths, such as ventilator care or precepting, in two or three lines.

Certifications: nurses

Registration first: the State Nursing Council, the year, and the number if the application asks for it. If you have a NUID from the Indian Nursing Council's registration system, list it with your registration. Then life-support courses such as BLS or ACLS, with the year.

Certifications: doctors

Your registration with the State Medical Council, with the number and year, and your National Medical Register ID if the National Medical Commission has issued one. Then courses such as ACLS.

Professional Experience

For each post: the unit or department and its size, patient ratios or case volumes, procedures you perform independently, and responsibilities such as audits, precepting or rotas. Doctors should include internship and residency here.

Education and Skills

Degree, college and years in the sidebar, kept short. List clinical skills a hiring panel can check, not general traits.

Quick checks before you send it

  • Put the council name and year beside every registration.
  • Give each role a unit, a size and a patient ratio or case volume.
  • Keep a single-column version for hospital portals with no named contact.

Frequently asked questions

Should a nurse include the registration number on a resume?

Always give the council and the year of registration. Add the number when an application asks for it; the hospital will need it to verify your registration before appointment.

What is a NUID, and does it replace state registration?

The NUID is a nurse's unique identity number, issued through the Indian Nursing Council's Nurses Registration and Tracking System after your State Nursing Registration Council verifies your details. Your state registration is still what registers you to practise, so list both if you have a NUID.

What registration details should a doctor list?

Your State Medical Council registration with its number and year. The National Medical Commission also maintains a National Medical Register under the NMC Act, 2019 and issues a unique NMR ID once the state council and the Commission have verified an application; list it if you have one.

Should I list every procedure I can perform?

No. Group procedures by competence, and list those the post needs that you perform independently. A long list of everything you have seen reads as padding and is hard to verify.
