Designation Change Letter, explained
About the Designation Change Letter
A designation change letter records a change in someone's job title — broader than a promotion, since it also covers lateral moves, title corrections, or reorganisation-driven changes that aren't necessarily a step up.
Issue it whenever a title change needs a written, dated record, whether or not it comes with a compensation change — a change significant enough to also affect pay may be better framed as a promotion letter instead.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as a promotion letter?
Not necessarily — a promotion letter specifically frames the change as an advancement, usually with a level and compensation increase. This letter covers any designation change, including a lateral title correction or a reorganisation that doesn't carry the same framing.
Do I need to include a compensation change?
Only if one is actually happening — choose the "With compensation change" variant and fill in the revised CTC. Otherwise the letter states plainly that compensation is unchanged, so there's no ambiguity later.
What effective date should I use?
The date the new designation actually applies — this is what future documents (an experience letter, a reference check) will be checked against.
